Reviewer: E. Charles Brod, April 5, 2005. Year Of The
Tiger is an outstanding military thriller that will keep you turning the
pages until the last issue is settled. In addition to a suspensful story
set around a conflict with China, Owen Smith provides a knowledgeable view
inside the operations of a modern navy carrier group. The personal story
of 'Warrior Woman', Kelly Owen is compelling and illustrates how women are
being integrated into the world of modern combat teams. A great read and
one you shouldn't miss.
Great Book! US Navy Carrier Battle Group Defends Freedom of
the Seas, Taiwan. Marealo, Missouri City, TX, A Navy
Reservist, February 23, 2005. Stan Smith’s initials
–SOS– say it all, literally: Save Our Society. SOS’ first novel, “Year
of the Tiger” is an urgent and well developed wake-up call for We the
People to timely develop and maintain the technologies, defense tools and
the means to deliver response to attacks on democracies worldwide when
presented. This great first novel is both an alarm and an alert by a
knowledgeable and prescient former carrier combat pilot as to what it
takes to be prepared. The conclusion: We need to do much more sooner to
effectively and reliably prepare to defend our freedoms and like-minded
democracies. The warning is brilliantly action oriented, plausible in the
coastal China area and explicit in its message: We must prepare or be
prepared to suffer defeat. The latter is unacceptable.
You
won't dog-ear the pages in this one; you won't put it down until you flip
the final page. Reviewer, Don, December 13, 2004. The world is getting
smaller these days, and we are starting to unlock some of the secrets of
places such as Afghanistan, Iraq, Iran and North Korea. But China still
remains hidden behind a dark veil of mystery. As the only two remaining
real 'superpowers', the US and China will ultimately determine the course
of world events for centuries to come. In Year of the Tiger by Stanley
Owen Smith, you are able to get a front row seat for the possible conflict
that could come about. Year of the Tiger is suspense filled, action packed
journey that will put you in cockpit of US Navy jet fighters without
having to leave the comfort and safety of a good comfortable chair. You
won't dog-ear the pages in this one; you won't put it down until you flip
the final page. Enjoy!
Can
the U.S. Navy Defend Taiwan From Invasion by China? A reviewer. I am a
knowledgeable person of military operations, November 2, 2004.
Who is the tiger in this confrontation - China, with it's demand that
Taiwan be returned to Mainland China or the U.S., resolved to defend
Taiwan's independence? The author presents a true understanding of the
conflict and offers an exciting and plausible answer, incorporating
frightening battle scenes and insight into the personal challenges of
those who fly the planes, fire the missiles and order others into battle.
The author also includes an intense look into the life and challenges of
the professional sailor, airman/airwoman and submariner on both sides of
the conflict.
Interesting and very close to
reality, December 8, 2004. Reviewer: "Avid Reader. While this is
a fiction it has a lot of reality based information that makes it close to
the real world. The book is interesting and engaging. Worth a read. Could
make a good movie.
Timely, a powerful story and an
excellent read, October 31, 2004. Reviewer, Roger Paulding. Seldom does a military thriller come into purview at a
more propitious time, when world events are moving rapidly toward the
establishment of China as a modern day super power. If you love to learn
all about the wide range of high-tech military assets that America owns,
this author fills the bill, as well as giving you the exciting story of an
up to date woman pilot out to prove her mettle. The author brings together
the distinct possibility of war between China and the U.S. with all its
frightening consequences. You will be thrown into the grips of such a
horrific event. If you love Clancy, you will love this book. There are a
lot of actresses in Hollywood who are going to be fighting over the role
of Kelly Owen, modern day Warrior Woman.
History Behind the Book
YEAR OF THE TIGER is fiction, but the international
situation that could lead to such a battle are real. I've studied military
history most of my life and the facts behind the fiction are alarming. If
you would like to explore with me the problems and opportunities both
America and China face if they are to achieve their rightful place on the
world stage, I address those topics on my History
Behind the Book page. If you find the topics discussed there
thought provoking, you can email me at stan@sowensmith.com.
