For most
Americans, China is an anomaly of conflicting ideologies -- a vibrant
entrepreneurial middle-class bursting forth on the global scene
despite a rigid authoritarian regime based on a repressive form of
Fascist-Communism. With all the global growth generated by China's
drive to build its economy, how could anyone possibly consider China
to be a national security threat for the U.S.?
The central focus
of my writing are issues dealing with America's national security. Year
of the Tiger is fiction. The changing faces of friends and enemies
in the world we live in are fact. For
that reason, I offer my conclusions on the wide range of security
issues that confront the U.S., one of which is how U.S.-China
relations could evolve in the near future and the opportunities for
conflict between the two behemoths along the way.
One
outcome is described in Year of the Tiger, released November
2004. Another possible outcome is described in a new book project
underway.
If you
would like to explore with me the problems and opportunities both
America and China face if they are to achieve their rightful place on
the world stage, please email me at stan@sowensmith.com.
