Antagonized by elections favoring a free
Republic of Taiwan, China brings its military forces to full readiness for an
invasion of what it claims is its "Province." U.S. Naval forces
equipped with an untried missile defense system are ordered to risk war by
confronting China.
Sea and air explode with massive
raids of Chinese torpedoes and cruise missiles and finally by an all out
attack from ballistic missiles. Kelly Owen, a
Top Gun, faces death in the air as well as acute career choices onboard
the USS Lincoln, the carrier that leads the Battle Group.
The chilling climax leaves readers
relieved to find the U.S. has the Sea Power to propel it into the 21st
century until they realize many of the weapon systems described are not
scheduled to arrive in the Navy's inventory until years after the event is
likely to occur.
History Behind the Book
YEAR OF THE TIGER is fiction,
but the international situation that could lead to such a battle are
real. I've studied military history most of my life and the facts behind
the fiction are alarming. If you would like to explore with me the
problems and opportunities both America and China face if they are to
achieve their rightful place on the world stage, I address those topics
on my History Behind the Book page.
If you find the topics discussed there thought provoking, you can email
